Dublin; City of Literature

We at Halpins Private Hotels were delighted to hear that Dublin was formally designated as a UNESCO City of Literature on Monday July 26th 2010. Dublin is one of only 4 cities in the world to have achieved this, along with Edinburgh, Melbourne and Iowa City. Dublin has long been associated with great literature thanks to the legacies of James Joyce, William Butler Yeats, George Bernard Shaw, Samuel Beckett etc. The Dublin Writers Museum in Parnell Square is a popular attraction for our guests as well as the ever-popular Book of Kells at Trinity College. The Dun Laoghaire Book Festival taking place next month is also attracting interest to the city. UNESCO Cities of Literature "work together to build strong global partnerships: encouraging literary exchanges, creating cross-cultural initiatives and developing local, national and international literary links" (http://www.cityofliterature.com/).
